Panya Clark Espinal is an important leading contemporary Canadian artist whose practice includes adopting the multiple roles of painter, sculptor, designer, art historian, archival researcher, and even horticulturist. Panya was born in Toronto, Canada in 1965. She continues to live and work in Toronto, and exhibits and is professionally represented internationally.

Panya studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, graduating in 1988. She also studied at the Parson's School of Design in New York in 1982. She has exhibited extensively in Canada and worldwide. Key solo exhibitions include the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (1994); the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge (1994); the Canadian Embassy, Tokyo (1999); Oakville Galleries, Oakville ON (2001) and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (1995).

Working substantially as an installation artist, Panya Clark Espinal's work focuses on investigating the nature of representation as practiced and engaged through the institutions of culture-making. Recognized as a masterful "creator of experiences." Panya Clark Espinal distinguishes herself among the art public, artists, curators and critics through her precise and evocative re-invigoration of already given images, bringing fresh perspectives and renewed intimacy to the act of looking.

Commenting on one of Panya's recent installations, NOW Magazine reviewer Deirdre Hanna offers, "It's weirdly wonderful stuff, slyly brilliant, and proves that institutional installations can be both accessible on a popular level and conceptually compelling."

Panya Clark Espinal's work is held in myriad important public and private collections internationally, including the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada. In addition, she has completed a number of high profile public art commissions for the Toronto Transit Commission, Covenant House in Toronto, and many others.
