Four men..., 2003, aluminum, latex paint, each panel 32" x 40" x 2"
Four men whom I never met and who never knew each other but whose bloodlines converge in my children is based on digital distillations of photographic portraits of ancestors, the images in this work were constructed out of painted square tubular aluminum extrusions. Stacked within frames, these became two-sided sculptural image panels which were hinged to the wall, allowing interaction and reconfiguration. Accompanying the portraits was a heap of aluminum blocks equivalent in size and number to the interiors of the image structures. Visitors (including descendants of the men) were invited to construct new structures from these blocks.
