The Silence & The Storm, 1998, oil on panel, over book reproductions,18' x 7'
In The Silence and the Storm, I removed 64 full-scale reproductions of Canadian artist Tom Thomson’s paintings from the book (of the same title) and repainted 5x7” sections of the paintings. The ‘rematerialized’ paintings were then mounted over the reproductions allowing a border of the reproduction to be seen.

Originally shown at the McMichael Canadaina Art Gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario, the group of 64 paintings were developed as an installation alongside 64 pots of fragrant narcissi flowers. These flowers made reference to archival documentation of the exhibition space which was once the living room of Signe and Robert McMichael. This work has also been shown without the flowers.
